Beatrice Cody & Stephen Page Didn't mean to fall in love. Listened in passing & 2 days later woke up with it in the collection and on headphone loop. "Casino-Cherry cola baby bottom-Babylon sister, holy roller, sticky skins. How do I begin to tell you everything?" This psychedelic earworm from the bottom of a tropical sunset tequila bottle has got me tripping. SvS tucks better grooves, hooks, harmonies & ambient sounds into the corners of one kaleidoscope song than most bands would build an entire album off of. Favorite track: The Dankness.

about

Dan Henchman and Tom Theodore’s indie R&B project Spain v Spain returns with six swampy, psychedelic tales.

Set in a tropical dystopia, the 6-track EP is the soundtrack to a night drive through the estuary resort of Exodus on Astro.

Drawing on Moodymann, Steve Lacy, The Police, Missy Elliott, JG Ballard, Carole King, Cocteau Twins, Drexciya, Maurice Fulton, The Style Council, Streets of Rage 2, Thundercat, Kid Creole and one long empty summer to create a swirling, simmering aquatic funk.

Envisaged amid the delirium of early lockdown, ideas were swapped on long phone calls, short Whatsapp audio recordings of guitar melodies, and lyrics in Google Docs became detail-crammed Ableton projects. By late summer, the duo reunited in Tony Nwachukwu’s studio, where their producer/oracle added shimmer and heavy reverb to the mix.

Exodus on Astro is released digitally on 4th December, with limited screen-printed 12” to follow in early 2021.
